Thank
you for visiting Camp Tecumseh through our website. As a fellow
parent, and a part of the Camp Tecumseh staff for more than
30 years, I want you to know that we truly feel in partnership
with parents. In addition to providing a wonderfully fun and
memorable camp experience for your children, we are committed
to helping reinforce the positive values you are already teaching
your youngsters at home. Character qualities like caring, responsibility,
respect, trustworthiness, teamwork, and initiative. Most parents
tell us they can see a difference in their children right away
when they return home. They are a little more grown up. They
help out more. They are kinder to their siblings. Hopefully
they are even a little better about picking up their room!
We also find that our daily chapel program in the morning
and the evening cabin devotions really help youngsters grow
in their personal faith. We are a Christian camp and the enthusiasm
and the lessons of the morning chapel program help many children
experience the joy of the Lord with a new excitement. We don’t
pressure anyone to make a decision to ask Jesus into their life
while at camp, and we welcome and respect children of other
faiths, but we do teach and sing about Christian love and the
Lord every day in Summer Camp. Many campers tell their parents
that they feel closer to God at Camp Tecumseh than any other
place.
Helping young people grow and to feel a real sense of belonging
has been my life’s work. We have been blessed with a tremendously
talented and dedicated staff team, many of whom have progressed
from camper to counselor and on to larger leadership roles….perhaps
as your child will do. Together we design and deliver fun, creative
programming that does two things. First it makes camp challenging
and fun so campers have joyful stories to tell of all they have
done. Secondly, we want our programs collectively to help every
child feel success and that they measure up—they count and they
are cared about! We train our counselors extensively and we
evaluate them throughout the summer.
It is my sincere hope that at the end of your youngster’s Camp
Tecumseh experience they will return to you with a huge array
of stories of their good times; that they will glow with the
excitement and the satisfaction of finding a special place to
be their home-away-from-home for years to come; and that you
will notice the positive changes as well. Perhaps in a few years
when your children finish their last camper year, you may comment
to us, as many parents have---“Thanks so much for all Camp Tecumseh
has done to help my child become the person they are today….”
Then we will know again that we have done our part.
Finally, if you have any questions or needs, please just pick
up the phone and give us a call. We strive to have a real person
answer the phone, knowledgeable and dedicated, throughout the
business day. Just call 765-564-2898. If it is after hours you
can leave a general voicemail or dial my extension (249) and
leave the message in my box. We will try to get back to you
the next business day. If you are hard to reach by phone, send
an email to info@camptecumseh.org
and we will email you back the next day. Whatever you prefer.
Be well, smile and laugh often, serve God daily, and brighten
the world for those around you!
See you this summer!
