Homecoming 2009

For 85 years Camp Tecumseh has been the hub of an ever-expanding wheel of friendships. Whether you came for a week or two of Summer Camp, a retreat with a YMCA program, or an adventure with your class at school, you returned home with stronger friendships and great memories. Reconnecting with camp friends and re-living camp memories is at the heart of Homecoming 2009. This great event will be held over Labor Day Weekend 2009. We invite you back for the entire weekend, Friday through Sunday, September 4 – 6, or just Saturday, September 5th… your choice!

Come home to the place that means so much to you. Rejoin with members of "the family”. Bring your family and friends and introduce them to this special place. Experience together the spirit and love of Camp. Laugh, sing, play and worship with old friends… just like you did the first time you came to Camp.

Explore how Camp has evolved over the years by visiting the Three-House Tree House, Suspension Bridge, Lake Village, and much more! Also hear about what developments are in the works for continued camp improvement.

the homecoming weekend

Arrive on Friday night, select your bunk and then join with other Camp alumni and families at a festive Opening Gathering in the Creative Arts Center.

On Saturday, awake to explore camp and its many fun activities like riflery, archery, canoeing, climbing, and hiking. Don’t forget a visit to the historic Ghost Cabin or play through a round of Camp’s new Disc Golf course! After lunch, travel back to your childhood camp days and take part in the Dutch Auction, rush to the Trading Post for Pop Stop, and then take a plunge at the Tecumseh Watering Hole (a.k.a. the pools) or a slide down the 100-foot water slides at the lake! There will also be an awesome Songfest of your Camp Tecumseh favorites!

Saturday evening will begin with a special Country Hoedown themed dinner. Don't forget your hat and country attire for a foot-stompin' good time. Of course, no visit to camp would be complete without a campfire. As dusk arrives, gather at the Closing Campfire area for a round of your favorite camp songs and skits!

On Sunday morning, fuel up on a hearty breakfast before making your way across the “Bridge of Silence” to gather for chapel at the “Green Cathedral”. Praise God for the many blessings He has bestowed upon our camp and for the many friendship it has provided. Finish the morning by enjoying your favorite camp activities one more time!

For those unable to be here the whole weekend, see the Saturday only option "C" below!

be a part of camp's new book

As part of the 2009 Homecoming, a new book is being created. It will be written by campers, staff, and parents from across Camp’s history. Life Lessons from Camp Tecumseh will be filled with 85 stories that help to tell the impact Camp Tecumseh has had on people’s lives.

To submit a story, click here. We are looking for stories that tell of something you experienced at camp, or of a person at camp that influenced your life. Tell us what and how you learned from it, either at the time or later in life. A free copy of the book will be given to those whose stories are used.

The full-color book will also have lots of pictures of Camp from across the years. Feel free to mail or email us any pictures you might have. If they are not used in the book, they will be added to our growing archives of camp memories.
