Why Choose Camp Tecumseh?

Perhaps campers say it best... “Camp Tecumseh is my favorite place on earth.” “The counselors are THE BEST.” “Camp has really changed my life. I have grown so much.”

Parents say things like, “The best decision we ever made for our children was to let them attend Camp Tecumseh. What a fabulous influence it has been on their lives!”

There are many important elements that make a GREAT camp experience and we focus intently on each: outstanding counselors, well developed programing for each age level, unmatched facilities, and a loving culture where campers grow in character, confidence and faith.

Dedicated Caring Leadership
Camp Tecumseh's strongest asset continues to be the high quality of its staff team. Our year-round professional staff have a full-time responsibility and commitment to camping. All of our counselors are college age and chosen for their maturity and desire to be good role models for campers. The relationship between a camper and a counselor is at the heart of Camp Tecumseh's success. Our summer staff of over 130 provides at least 1 leader to every 3 curious, energetic kids. Two staff live, work, and play with each cabin unit. We even have international counselors who enhance opportunities for cross-cultural understanding. A registered nurse is on hand 24 hours a day in our excellent health center and emergency hospital facilities are only 12 miles away.

Tecumseh's I'm Third Motto
An important component in creating such a positive atmosphere at Camp Tecumseh is the "I'm Third" motto. God is First. The other person is Second, and I'm Third. Our motto encourages each of us to put God first in our life...to follow His teachings and conduct ourselves in ways pleasing to Him. "The other person is Second" reminds us to be unselfish and look out for the concerns of others, leaving ourselves "Third".
At Camp Tecumseh YMCA, we endeavor to create a community filled with caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.

Our Goals
We want every camper to leave knowing...

  1. That God loves each person individually and truly cares for them.
  2. We should respect the right of others to believe differently than ourselves, and we can still be friends, cabinmates, or teammates with them.
  3. That we are each responsible for our own actions and attitudes and should realize that through them we can be a positive or negative influence on others.
  4. That violence is not a good choice for settling disputes between individuals.

Excellent Cabins
Campers live with their counselors in beautiful cabins complete with their own built-in bunks, shower, and restroom facilities. A camper can come to camp with a friend and share all the excitement and adventure of camp with them as a cabin mate! Campers are grouped in units by age in order to provide activities appropriate for the age and developmental level of each youngster.
