Meet the Fall 2015 Outdoor Education Staff

A great staff provides the foundation for a great Outdoor Education season and this fall we’ve assembled a legendary crew. Committed to providing the best field trip experience a student will ever have during their time in school, our Outdoor Educators are sure to be friendliest, most helpful bunch you could hope to meet. Take a minute and learn about the folks whose nature inspired nicknames will echoing through hallways for the rest of the school year.

Mongoose

Matt

Welcome to Tecumseh, my name is Mongoose and I’m excited that you are here to join us! I have been a camper or on staff for the past 15 years. I met my lovely wife Emma while a summer counselor here, so very thankful for this place and to be part of the full time staff. I am currently the Outdoor Education Director and blessed to work with such a great group of folks! I received a degree from the University of Miami in Microbiology and Chemistry. After college I taught high school science in Miami for 4 years, and that is where I developed my passion and love for education. In my free time I love to run, enjoy the outdoors, travel and read a good book. Blessed to be working at a place as great as Camp Tecumseh and looking forward to working with your group!

Jalapeno

Jamie-Z

Hey Everybody! My name is Jalapeno. I grew up in Crawfordsville, IN about an hour south of Camp Tecumseh. I met my husband at camp when we were counselors in 2010 and we got married last June. We live in Brookston, IN with our dog, Miley. Tecumseh is where I found my passion for working with youth and getting them excited about learning. I graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Human Services. This is my first year on full time staff at Tecumseh, and I feel so blessed to work at this incredible place year round! My family are the greatest people I know. I have two nephews (soon to be three!) that I adore and try to visit as much as I can. Some of my favorite things include long walks with my dog, crafting, singing, taking naps in hammocks, movie theater popcorn, and anything Disney or Marvel. Looking forward to having you here!

Kilimanjaro

Keith

Look, from the ground rising is Kilimanjaro. I started as a pile of rocks and dirt from the banks of the mighty Mississippi River, eastside of Illinois (Belleville). I lava my way over to camp and have been a free standing mountain (Outdoor Education Staff) for nine years. Educated and formed by many years at MacMurray College and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, with degrees in Religion and Psychology, and Pastoral Counseling. I am a friend and warrior for the great outdoors; enjoy playing in the creek, hammocking from trees, singing with the birds, hiding out with turtles, dancing like a snake, and cooking over campfires. I oversee camp’s Nature Center and spend hours in the building, see if you can find me in the Nature Center. Enjoy your stay at camp; be strong like rocks and stand firm.

Dingo

Dayna

Greetings from Camp Tecumseh where the students shine as bright as the stars, the leaves are green with photosynthesis, and camp staff rock some awesome wooden name tags. My name is Dingo, and this will be my third season on Outdoor Education staff and my fourth year at camp. Some of my favorite things about camp are the great people I meet and work with everyday, flagpole songs, campfire, laughing and making others laugh with me. I am so excited for this season and can’t wait to meet all of you!

Enoch

Ellyn

Hello friends my name is Enoch and I landed here from the great city of Indianapolis. This May I graduated from the wonderful Indiana University in Bloomington where I studied liberal arts and anthropology. My favorite parts about camp are building friendships, hiking the trails, and singing songs at flagpole. When I’m not at camp I enjoy rollerblading around my neighborhood,  eating ice cream with friends, and laughing with my grandma, Jarn. Cannot wait to meet all of you and make lifelong memories at Camp T!

Falcon

Fabiano

Hi everyone! My name is Falcon and I’m from Brazil! I graduated from UFMG with a degree in Chemistry, which doesn’t mean anything to you, but it’s a good school! I came to Camp Tecumseh for the first time in 2012 as a summer camp counselor and couldn’t stay away from this wonderful place for too long! Some of my favorite camp activities are the high ropes courses and team building activities. I am very excited to join the Outdoor Education team this season.

Hedgehog

Hayden

Hello there! You can  call me Hedgehog, and I hail from the southwest corner Missouri. There, I attended the University of Missouri (Mizzou), studying Social Work and Multicultural Studies. I’ve been in the field of YMCA Camping now for six years, starting out at YMCA Camp Wakonda in Springfield, Missouri. This will be my third season at the beautiful Camp Tecumseh, and I have been so proud to call it home! You can often finding me walking in the pine forest, staring up at the beautiful trees, with the stars, or the great blue sky above, peaking through the canopy. If I could have any superpower, I would certainly to talk to arctic animals such as the majestic reindeer, because we would sing our favorite Camp songs and plant our own Christmas Trees! If there was one piece of advice that I had to offer Campers coming to Camp, it would be to be ready for adventure!

Eclipse

Liz

Hey all! Eclipse here, hailing from Brookston, IN. I am so excited to be here for my first OE season! This summer at Camp was my 18th summer, and I’m ready to be back for another great experience at camp, getting to see a new side of things and continuing to learn from what Camp T has to offer. I graduated in the spring from Indiana Wesleyan University with a degree in Exercise Science. At college, I played ultimate frisbee, worked at an after school program for local kids, and was involved with the theater! I love the outdoors, hanging out in my hammock, biking, reading, hobo dinners, and staying up way too late talking. I’m so pumped to meet you all! See you soon!

Mole

Molly

Hi! My name is Mole and this is my first season working Outdoor Education here at Camp Tecumseh! I started coming to camp as a camper during the summers when I was 8 years old, and this past summer was my 14th summer at camp. I’ve been apart of the summer staff for 5 summers now, but am very looking forward to being apart of the fall OE team and getting to see this side of camp! I grew up in Indianapolis and am a graduate from Indiana University in Bloomington. There I was very involved in Dance Marathon benefiting Riley Children’s Hospital in downtown Indianapolis. I’m looking forward to being apart of the OE team and getting to meet you all! I love anything that keeps me active and being outside as much as possible.

Pollywog

Pauly-H

Hi there my name is Pollywog and I am so excited to meet you! I love the outdoors, I love cats and I love people! But I think one of the most exciting things to me is being caught away in the wonderful sensation of reading a good book. No matter where you are or what you are doing, you can always pick up that book and it can carry you away to wonderful and fantastic places. One of my favorite memories of growing up was laying on my back, with my feet sticking straight up in the air reading my very first book: “The Story of Ferdinand”. The book changed the way I viewed the universe! The most important book I ever read was the Bible. Books helped me to grow up and to learn and to be the best person that I was supposed to be. It didn’t matter if it was a book about Science or the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, I wanted to read it. Every person is a like a book. Each person has their own story inside of them. I look forward to meeting you so you can share your story with me.

Polar Bear

Pete

My name is Polar Bear and yes, I am very tall! I hail from the 765 area code. I attended Indiana University where I studied business management / administration and have been a summer camp counselor at Tecumseh for the past eight years, but this is my second Outdoor Education season. I enjoy the snow, swimming, and  eating fish and the occasional seal.I also enjoy playing sports and attending most sporting events. If I could pick a superpower to have I would choose to be Beast from the X-men. Bowties are cool!  I can’t wait for you to join us where the leaves are green and the stars shine bright!

Reindeer

Robbie

Hello, Reindeer here! Far far north of here, I was born at a very young age. It didn’t take long for me decide that the cold wasn’t for me and I moved south to the Tecumseh area. I’ve been on the Tecumseh staff for six years now and I’m happy to be returning for my third season with Outdoor Education. When I’m not fulfilling my winter duties or working here at Camp, I enjoy playing music, eating donuts with Hedgehog, reading, trick yo-yoing, and swing dancing (all at the same time!). I’m looking forward to seeing all of you soon!

Tuna

Tim

Hi! My name is Tuna. I grew up in Indianapolis and recently graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Industrial Engineering and a minor in Communications. I have worked at Tecumseh as a camp counselor for two summers, but this is my first season working in Outdoor Education. I have spent a large portion of my life in camp settings through Boy Scouts and other organizations. I even participated in Tecumseh Outdoor Education programs back in the 4th and 5th grade. These types of experiences have made me grow a lot over the years, so I’m really looking forward to paying that forward. I love Camp Tecumseh for many reasons, but one of the main reasons I chose to stay is the phenomenal staff. The people here constantly make me smile. I also love the camp lifestyle. It energizes me and fits well with my personality. Outside of camp I enjoy playing sports, jamming on the guitar, Mexican food, and almost all social situations. I’m also a huge Colts fan. Fall is almost here! I’m beyond excited to meet all the groups coming in this season!
