Camp serves approximately 80 different groups of Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts each year. Scout troops from both Indiana and Illinois take advantage of the many program areas such as horses, archery, riflery, canoeing, climbing, etc. that are difficult to do at home. It is a great opportunity to fulfill badge work requirements. Group sizes range from large multi-cabin groups to small troops that only require one cabin. Contact the Retreats Department kylel@camptecumseh.org to schedule your troop’s visit to Camp Tecumseh YMCA.

Project American Life is an exciting educational experience that deals with citizenship, history and character development. From the moment students arrive at Camp Tecumseh they are swept up in the excitement and intrigue of the program. They are immediately placed into a caste system, with some students born into Royalty and others as … Untouchables! Will students adhere to this system or is there a better standard under which they could live? What could the Declaration of Independence have to offer?

"It's past curfew in East Berlin"
As the program progresses students participate in games and activities that develop the ideas of the Declaration of Independence. What are self-evident truths? What does it mean to be endowed by a Creator with certain unalienable Rights? What is Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness?

Team Building Activities
The culminating activity on the last night of the trip is called “In Search of the American Embassy.” In this realistic simulation students try to “escape” from East Germany to the American Embassy through Checkpoint Charlie. They are forced to watch a communist re-education film, hide in the woods from Communist soldiers and escape in a school bus on their quest for freedom! It is a thrilling adventure that students will never forget, nor will they forget what it means to be free.

Reality of freedom shared by a Veteran
These activities are specially designed to stimulate the cognitive process, build character and a spirit of teamwork, as well as foster understanding of the noble principles upon which this nation was founded.

Many grandparents and relatives often ask what to get the kids for Christmas. Camp makes a wonderful gift. A week of summer camp as a gift will last much longer than any other gift on your child’s wish list. Camp Tecumseh truly is an experience that lasts a lifetime. Not only will your child get to experience the many wonderful activities such as climbing, swimming, and hiking but they will also have the opportunity to grow in their faith and learn more about the “I’m Third” motto.

Camp For Christmas
Please let camp know if you are giving a week of summer camp as a gift and we will send you a certificate to give at Christmas. If you have already purchased a week of camp, just give us a call at our office during business hours and we can get your certificates to you fast! Thanks!

The recent warm weather has created a wonderful outdoor classroom for school groups. The earlier frosts took care of most of the mosquitos and the wildlife is easier to see with the leaves down.

Preparing for the "Mission Possible Trail"

Belay commands and safety rules are given before climbing Mt Wood
Next week is the last week of schools for the the fall Outdoor Education season. The 7 seasonal staff will leave and the 3 full time staff will continue to serve the remaining school groups. “Christmas in the Colonies” and “Winter in the Settlement” are programs that have been enjoyed for many years by schools that want to come after Thanksgiving. These schools have a great time and often have most of camp to themselves. Many of our summer campers discover camp through a school field trip.
