I noticed the sun starting to rise above the trees behind the swimming pool. I was amazed at how many bird sounds were recorded as I tried to capture the moment. I posted the video on youtube if you would like to “hear” the sunrise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LdaVVBCf-4&feature=youtu.be

The Spring 2012 Outdoor Education Season is under way! Each season is exciting and refreshing as the year-round staff team welcomes the new staff to the Tecumseh family. It is a long standing tradition that the Outdoor Education staff create nicknames (representative of something in nature) to use with the 130 school groups that attend each year. The nickname usually begins with the first letter of their first name. As you can see by the names below, they can be quite creative.

Spring 2012 Outdoor Education Staff

(Front Row): Tara/Tiger Lily, Jamie/Jalapeno, Colette/Clover, Keith/Kilimanjaro

Last night when the dust settled… the final Score was 1,235 to 418 in our section of the brackets, and we will be moving on to round two of the Brackets for Good tournament, sponsored by http://www.marketingmediators.com!
Let me just take a moment to thank those of you who got involved early in this event:
- 1,235 is a lot of points! That’s not just two full camperships, it is a chance for two (or more) kids to experience summer-camp’s faith building love and excitement for a week.
- 1,235 is a lot of points! That’s not just ten day camp spots, it is a chance for an entire new trail group to experience laughter, joy, fun, and adventure.
- 1,235 is a lot of points! That’s not just a 5th grade class field trip, it is a chance for almost 20 kids to work towards their goals during the school year and to participate with their classmates in experiencing “Outdoor Education” at its finest.
Our competitor, http://orrfellowship.org/, played a good game, and we want to thank them for participating in the tournament! Personally, we can’t wait to watch for a great batch of start-ups coming Indiana’s way in the coming years due to the work they are doing with entrepreneurial college seniors!
On now to Round 2, where we face off with Shepard Community Center (http://www.shepherdcommunity.org/). Their mission is “to break the cycle of poverty on the near eastside of Indianapolis by engaging and empowering the community to cultivate healthy children, strong families, and vibrant neighborhoods through a Christ-centered approach that meets the spiritual, physical, emotional, and academic needs of our neighbors.”
Isn’t it great that we get to work to support both organizations this week? Good Luck Shepard!
You can get involved by following along with the score at www.bracketsforgood.org. Score some points this week for kids at Camp Tecumseh.

Camp attracts people from all over the world. It is rewarding to know that what we learn and share at camp touches many others.

BRACKETS FOR GOOD “TIPS-OFF” MARCH 5th
We are excited to announce the tip off to our first web-raising tournament on March 5, 2012 to coincide with the seasonal buzz of College Basketball Tournaments. The online event will support Camp Tecumseh’s campership program that provides scholarships for low-income youth to experience camp.
Brackets for Good uses an online bracket system to help raise money for Indiana nonprofits. Teams – or participating non-profits like Camp Tecumseh YMCA – are matched up to “play” one another – earning points when people visit the site and donate. One dollar is worth one point and after each round the winning team advances to the next round. All participants keep 100 percent of the donations they receive and the overall winner receives an additional grand prize at the completion of the bracket championship.
The first tournament winner receives a grand prize donation of $5,000 – in addition to all individual donations – courtesy of title sponsor Bluefish Wireless, an Indianapolis-based company that helps businesses design, deploy and manage wireless programs.
“After the last two Men’s College Basketball Tournaments in which Butler made the final game, we felt there had to be a way to turn the positive energy and hype surrounding the tournament into a greater good,” said Matt McIntyre, co-founder of Brackets for Good. “The concept of Brackets for Good is simple and completely focuses on helping local charities ‘webraise.’”
Please help send a child to camp this year, and raise awareness for all of the valuable charities involved in this tournament. If you have any questions, contact Ben Meyaard or call 765-564-2898.

Madeleine took a school trip to Ghana over winter break. One of her favorite experiences was singing, dancing, and playing games with school children and orphans. She wrote: “I can’t get over how happy, welcoming, spiritual, and generous everybody here is: it’s certainly a lesson in how to be Third.

Liberty School from Illinois is currently enjoying 54 degree weather on their annual Camp Tecumseh Outdoor Education field trip. Last year at this time they were concerned that over a foot of snow might alter their transportation.

Enjoying a warm winter!

Currently 54 degrees and sunny!
