Day Camp Open House

Sunday, April 17 2-5 pm

On Sunday, April 17 from 2-5 pm the Camp Tecumseh YMCA Day Camp staff is inviting any interested families to stop by for an Open House.  Attendees will get the chance to tour around camp, meet the Day Camp Counselors, ask the Director questions and try some of the Day Camp activities.  We’ll have mini-golf, face painting, tractor rides, black hole slide, rock climbing and more available for guests to try.  There will also be drawings to win Camp Tecumseh apparel!  No registration or RSVP is required for the open house.

Mark your calendar for the next Partner’s Service Day.  It is a great time and is fun for the entire family.  You can take advantage of being at Camp and purchase your mother something from the Trading Post to go with the other big gift you are going to get her.

Camp Tecumseh is inviting any and all CILTs (Campers in Leadership Training) from the summer of 2010 to a winter reunion!

Saturday, December 12 – Sunday, December 13 the CILTs are invited to come back to camp for some time of fun, games, catching up and more!  Many of your favorite Camp T counselors will be there to make sure it’s a great time!

Interviews for Day Camp will also be conducted on a limited basis.

Partner’s Service Days are a great opportunity to meet new people, re-unite with friends, model volunteering to your family, and reconnect with Camp in a special way.  It is also a great way to introduce first time campers and help them feel more comfortable and confident.

We gather at 9:00 am in the Lake Village parking lot to divide into groups and choose a project.  You can come for the entire day or  help for a couple of hours.  Hamburgers and brats are served picnic style  at noon and then we regroup to finish remaining projects.

Please email Vince at vincep@camptecumseh.org if you would like to be included or have questions.  More information will be sent in a few weeks to those that indicate that they would like to participate.  It really is a great time!

This Spring’s Partner’s Service Day is right around the corner on May 1!  We will meet at Lake Village parking lot at 9:00am and we’ll have work through about 4:30pm. You can come and help out for as long as you want. Lunch served off the grill!

We are inviting Day Camp families–both new and returning–to come to camp on Sunday, April 18 from 2:00-6:00 pm! Families will have the opportunity to take a trailer ride around camp, climb Mt. Wood, scream down the Black Hole and try other Day Camp activities!

We’ll have several of our counselors on hand to meet campers and parents and to help answer any questions you might have.  Joel (that’s me, the Day Camp Director) and Christa (the Day Camp Registrar) will be on hand to help with questions and registration.

A drawing will also be held for free Camp Tecumseh T-Shirts!

We are gearing up for another Partner’s Service Day on October 17, 2009.  For those that have helped before, you already know that it is a great opportunity to meet new people, re-unite with friends, model volunteering to your family, and reconnect with Camp in a very helpful way.

Thanks to a generous contribution, one of our goals is to build another “Ga Ga Pit” for Lake Village.  Many of the boards will be pre-cut for this project but it will take most of the day for a crew to screw it all together.  You are more than welcome to bring your own heavy duty cordless drill.

Another goal is to clear much of the growth that prevents us from seeing the beautiful Tippecanoe River from both the River Lodge deck and the Chapel.  Camp will provide many of the tools but you are more than welcome to bring your own long handle pruning loppers and small hand saws.  Please don’t bring chainsaws.

Other projects will be considered as we determine the number of volunteers planning to participate and their areas of expertise.

The day begins at 9:00 am in the Lake Village parking lot and usually ends around 3:00 pm.  We take a break at noon for grilled hamburgers and brats.  We would love to have you join us even if it is only for part of the day.

Camp Tecumseh YMCA is hosting a Day Camp
Open House on Sunday, April 19!

We are inviting returning and prospective Day Campers and their families to come to camp on Sunday, April 19 from 2:00-6:00 pm.  We’ll have tractor hayrides giving tours around camp, we’ll have a campfire with marshmallows to roast, and several of our counselors, both new and returning, will be on hand to meet campers and parents and help you get to know camp a little more.  We’ll also open up the Black Hole, Mt. Wood and Archery for the kids and adults to try out with our staff’s help.

Joel (the Day Camp Director) and Christa (the Day Camp Registrar) will be there as well to answer any questions that you might have and to help you get signed up for camp.

Registration for Camp Tecumseh Homecoming 2009 is here!  This Labor Day weekend we are going to celebrate 85 years of friends and fun at Camp Tecumseh.  If you can’t come the entire weekend, that’s okay too: you can come and join us on Saturday only!

As we have been mentioning here on the Camp Tecumseh News page for a while, a new book and a new video about Camp Tecumseh history will premiere as part of this weekend.  We are also going to play some classic camp games and have a great Hoe Down dinner.  Most importantly, we are going to re-connect with some camp friends we might have not seen in years.   This event will be for you whether you went to a camp session 75 years ago, you attended an Indiana Guides weekend with your Dad, you came with your school in 5th grade, or your first summer as a camper was in 2009, if you love Camp Tecumseh this event is going to be for you.

A Camp Tecumseh Partner is a person who joins with staff and Board to make camp better! One of the best gatherings of Partners is the annual Partners Service Day. Mark your calendar now for the spring date: Saturday May 2nd and of course it is FREE. Spring will be in full bloom at camp and the anticipation of summer will be high! You should contact camp friends now and get it on everyone’s calendar. Have a friend that has never been to camp and you would like them to see it? Bring them to the May 2nd Partners Service Day. There will be a variety of projects to help make camp better for the upcoming season. YOU can be part of something important!! Some of the coolest projects in the past have been: building the Three-house Treehouse, creating the new stage area of River Chapel, and building the Lake Village GaGa pit. Cool stuff. Mark your calendar and become a Partner!!!
