Grades 1-3 and
Grades 4-6
Earthship
Journey
With today's concerns for protecting our environment, this
program is an ideal supplement to your science studies for grades
4 - 6. The Earthship Journey program is built around the Earthship
Code.
Our tiny planet called earth is actually on a journey among
the stars. Since we are more or less bound to this planet,
we too are travelers on this journey. Passengers, on this
vehicle named earth. |

|
Through the activities
and experiences of the Earthship Journey Program we hope the students will:
 |
Gain a clearer understanding
of how the natural systems of our Earthship operate on automatic
pilot. |
 |
Gain an appreciation and sense
of comradeship with our fellow passengers of the planet
and animal world. |
 |
Realize that people can only
control the destiny of our planet in a clumsy, destructive
way and that we must learn to live in harmony with the natural
systems. |
The Pine Forest
- students investigate
the soil and study overpopulation
The Meadow's Edge - students study the
changes in the community and the food chain
The Oak Forest
- students do a rotting
log investigation as an example of decomposition as well as study
communities in the oak forest
Ghost Creek - students explore the
critters of the creek and do a stream flow study
The Nature Center - students explore our extensive
Nature Center and observe microorganisms under a microscope.
Discovering Nature
is designed for the 1st - 3rd grades.
| Discovering Nature's primary goal is to
develop within each participant an increased sensitivity to the
natural environment. This goal is achievable as each student goes
through the process of: Discover, Investigate, and Understand. As
students discover on their own the beauty and uniqueness of the
natural environment and make simple and straightforward investigation,
they will understand more clearly how the natural world functions. |
 |
Some of the areas of discovery include:
 |
Animals: Students
have a hands on experience at the mini-farm and as they
walk through our pine forest to look and listen for signs
of wildlife. |
 |
Rock Gulch: Children
have a natural infatuation with rocks. They love to collect
them and study how different each rock appears. They won't
learn what their rock is made of, but they will get to explore
and feed some of that curiosity |
 |
Wolves' Den: On
their hike to The Wolves' Den, the students will look for
and investigate various habitats of our Oak forest residents.
They will also explore Camp Tecumseh's Wolves' Den! |
 |
Meadow Safari:
Just how many insects can be caught in the meadow? The students
catch and then observe insects to see how they are all different
and special. |
