Preparing for your Retreat

We are so excited to welcome you to Camp Tecumseh. We’ve compiled some helpful information to ensure you and your child are ready for an unforgettable experience.

How To Get to Camp Tecumseh

We’re located at 12635 W Tecumseh Bend Road, Brookston, IN 47923. We’re 2 hours south of Chicago, and an hour and a half north of Indianapolis.

Arrival & Check-In

Where to Go and When to Arrive

Most groups arrive on Friday evening. Friday check-in begins at 4:30pm. Check in at the Lake Village Trading Post (even if your group is staying in River Village). A member of the Camp Tecumseh staff will be present to check you in until 9:00pm. After 9:00pm, a sign will be posted outside each trading post directing you to the appropriate cabin. You can check in the following morning at the trading post.

What to Bring (and not bring) to Camp

With your Tecumseh adventure right around the corner, it’s important you bring what you need. 

Camp Essentials

  • Sleeping bag for each person or twin extra-long sheets and blankets
  • Pillow
  • Water Bottle

Clothing

  • 1 pair Pajamas
  • Tennis shoes
  • Boots or old shoes
  • 3-4 pairs of socks
  • 3-4 pairs of underwear
  • Shirt for each day
  • Heavy & lightweight shirt
  • 2 sweatshirts
  • daily change of pants/shorts
  • Jacket or Coat
  • Rain coat/poncho

Personal Care

  • Hand soap
  • Bath towel
  • Wash cloth
  • Shampoo

  • Firearms, archery equipment, etc.
  • Fireworks
  • Glass bottles

Meals

Meals at Camp

All meals provided by Camp will be served in Scheumann Lodge or the River Village Lodge, depending on the village your group is staying in. Food is served buffet style. We eat at large circular tables conducive to conversation.

For adults, there is  coffee and tea available in both lodges, as well as snacks like apples and bananas.

Communication

If you need to reach us

If somebody needs to get in touch with you urgently, please have them call the office number (765-564-2898) and one of our office staff will be able to contact them. For after-hours emergency needs only, please call the same number and follow the prompts. You will press 5 to reach the after-hours cell phone.

Cell phone coverage at Camp varies depending on provider. Each dining hall has Internet access available on computers and we have Skype Internet telephone available. We also have WiFi capability if you bring your own laptop. Camp computers are only to be used by adults.
