Director of Food Services

The Director of Food Services is responsible for the quality and consistency of meals served, menu planning, and the cleanliness and safety of all dining and kitchen areas. The Director of Food Services is responsible for leading and managing a staff team of 3 full-time and 40+ part-time food service team members.

 

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Experience leading and managing a large staff team
  • Bachelor’s degree, culinary degree or equivalent work experience
  • Exceptional nutritional and culinary knowledge
  • 2+ years of food management experience
  • Previous experience feeding large groups of people
  • Experience working within a budget
  • Emotional maturity, good moral character and integrity
  • Ability to self-direct, manage time, and meet deadlines
  • Organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer experience including e-mail, online ordering, Word and Excel
  • ServSafe certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire
  • Experience managing change

     

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Hire, train, lead, manage, and evaluate all food service staff
  • Attend department head meetings on Monday afternoons and plan accordingly for the week ahead
  • Maintain the kitchen using the food service standards of the American Camp Association and the Indiana State Department of Health as guidelines
  • Be responsible for the cleanliness of all three kitchens
  • Manage and approve employee hours through payroll system
  • Schedule the appropriate number of kitchen staff as it relates to the number of meals and people served
  • Place food orders at appropriate times throughout the week
  • Keep track of food inventory
  • Maintain excellent relationships with guests, employees, and fellow staff team members
  • Delegate responsibilities
