10 Things You Might Not Know About Equestrian Camp

While riding horses is an essential part of the Equestrian Camp experience, there’s so much more that happens here. From swim time, to village games, to mounted archery, here are 10 things about Equestrian Camp you may not know.

1) Get ready to ride. A lot.
Every morning you’ll receive an hour long riding lesson. You’ll also take part in clinics for two afternoons a week.

2) You get to swim.
It gets hot during the summer, and few things feel better than taking a dip in the lake or the pool. As an equestrian camper, you’ll have lots of opportunities to cool off in the pool, play on the blobs, and go down the waterslides.

3) Totally unique programs.
Have you ever wanted to shoot a bow and arrow from horseback? Have you ever played broom polo? We don’t just ride around in circles. Our programs are exciting, engaging, and loads of fun.

4) Take part in Overnight Camp
We’re an important part of the overnight camp experience. While we’re at the barn every morning and for two afternoons, we’re participating in overnight camp activities the rest of the time. From campfires, to village games, to cookouts, signing up for Equestrian Camp doesn’t mean missing out on your favorite parts of Overnight Camp.

5) A horse just for you.
At the beginning of the week, you will be assigned a horse and as long as you get along well, you’ll get the chance to ride that horse all week.  You’ll be responsible for grooming and tacking up your horse.  On clinic afternoons, you’ll get the chance to ride some of our other camp horses.

6)  No experience necessary.
You don’t have to be a good rider to sign up. In fact, you don’t have to know how to ride to sign up. Many of our campers have learned to ride while here at camp, and many of them only ride while they are here.

7) New Challenges for Experienced Riders.
If you ride regularly, we still have lots to offer. With clinics like driving, bare back, and mounted trail obstacles, you’ll get a unique experience not always available at your local barn. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to ride different horses. If you’re looking for a challenge, try riding a different seat than you normally ride.

8)  Awesome non-riding activities
There’s lots to do at the barn that doesn’t involve riding. From the Amazing Horse Race, to Barn Olympics, to Career Day, you’ll make life-long friends, grow in confidence and character, and learn more about yourself.

9) Equestrian Climbing Wall
The Equestrian Center has its own unique climbing wall only available to Equestrian campers. Crazy Horse is a wooden climbing wall located inside the EQ center.

10) Helping You Grow
While we are dedicated to teaching you how to ride, and improving your riding abilities, our ultimate goal is to use the model of a horse to teach you about empathy, leadership, and awareness so we can help you grow.
